On Monday, the Brooklyn Nets officially signed Theo Pinson. With Pinson heading to training camp, where does his future with Brooklyn stand?
The Brooklyn Nets on Monday afternoon announced the signing of Theo Pinson.
Pinson, who was rumored to sign a two-way contract shortly after the 2018 NBA Draft, will be signed to an Exhibit 10 contract, which not only gets him a training camp invite but guarantees him $50,000.
Pinson’s signing brings the Nets’ roster to 19 players heading into training camp. NBA teams can carry a maximum of 20 entering training camp.

The roster includes Jarrett Allen, DeMarre Carroll, Allen Crabbe, Mitch Creek, Ed Davis, Tyler Davis, Spencer Dinwiddie , Jared Dudley, Kenneth Faried, Treveon Graham, Joe Harris, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Rodions Kurucs, Caris LeVert, Jordan McLaughlin, Dzanan Musa, Shabazz Napier, D’Angelo Russell, and now Pinson.
With Pinson going to training camp, he will not be able to make Brooklyn’s 15-man roster unless someone with a guaranteed contract is waived.
Brooklyn currently has 14 guaranteed contracts, but you can count Dinwiddie as the final contract spot. Dinwiddie’s contract is non-guaranteed before Oct. 31 and has a guarantee of $250,000 before Jan. 10, at which point his full $1.66 million becomes guaranteed.
Given his role, Dinwiddie is essentially on a guaranteed deal. This leaves Brooklyn with their likely 15-man roster for the start of the 2018-19 season.
With Brooklyn’s roster now appearing to be set, where does Pinson’s future stand?
With Pinson agreeing to an Exhibit 10 contract, he is in the running for a two-way contract. Three other Nets have the Exhibit 10 attachment: Creek, Tyler Davis and McLaughlin.
Brooklyn has a good option in their favor. The Nets can retain the G-League rights to any rookie waived in training camp. This means if Brooklyn waive any one of these players, they can retain them and have them play for their G League, the Long Island Nets.

Out of these four players, Pinson had the best Summer League campaign and a well-rounded college basketball resume.
Pinson played four seasons for the North Carolina Tar Heels. He played in 122 games, starting 58 of them. His main role was coming off the bench and making a big impact on both ends of the floor.
Pinson was a huge piece off the bench during North Carolina’s 2017 national championship season.
His best college season was his senior year, when he averaged 29.7 minutes, 10.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. In fact, Pinson became the just the eighth Atlantic Coast Conference player to average at least 10 points, five rebounds and five assists in a season.
In his four-year run with the Tar Heels, Pinson averaged 21.7 minutes, 6.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.
In the 2018 Summer League, Pinson played for the Brooklyn Nets. He played in all five of Brooklyn’s Summer League games and averaged 25.0 minutes,11.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.
He was one of Brooklyn’s brighest standouts in the Summer League and it comes to no surprise that Brooklyn signed him to an Exhibit 10 deal and a training camp invite.
With all this being said, it is likely that we will see Pinson play for the Long Island Nets when the 2018-19 season comes around.
