Brooklyn Nets: Player grades from 107-102 loss to Knicks

DeMarre Carroll got the start at the power forward spot with Rondae Hollis-Jefferson still recovering from a strained left abductor.
It … did not go particularly well.
Carroll worked hard on defense, but was not particularly active offensively. He took five shots, four from 3-point range, and clanked them all, including one corner 3 that he shot as if he was above the break — the ball barely hit the back side of the rim as it sailed by the basket.
For an older player in a battle with Caris LeVert for his starting job, it was not the sort of performance he likely was hoping for.
Still, he’s a 10-year vet and the preseason is in part designed to work stuff out and get the rust off. So from that perspective, perhaps Carroll got that all out of his system now, rather than in two weeks when the games start to count for real.
