As for the basics, the Nets shot 46.3 percent overall (44-for-95) and were 11-for-35 (31.4 percent) from 3-point range. That number includes a solid 8-for-19 (42.1 percent) effort after halftime. Brooklyn was just 3-for-16 at the break.
Detroit was held to 36.3 percent shooting (41-for-113) and was 15-for-38 (39.5 percent) from long range.
Brooklyn won the rebounding battle 71-61, but were beaten on the offensive glass 22-14. The Nets also turned the ball over 20 times, leading to 23 points for the Pistons, while Detroit had just eight turnovers that led to six Brooklyn points.
The Nets outscored the Pistons by a wide margin, 60-38, in the paint and had a 25-14 edge in second-chance points despite Detroit’s big advantage in offensive rebounds.
The teams were even in transition, each scoring 11 points on the fast break.
Statistically, D’Angelo Russell led the Nets with 25 points, with Caris LeVert and Jarrett Allen each scoring 17 and Joe Harris adding 13. Ed Davis had 10 boards for Brooklyn and LeVert notched eight assists. Allen finished with four blocked shots, with Carroll and Harris each recording two.
It was Carroll who had a team best plus-16 plus/minus, while Spencer Dinwiddie and Jared Dudley each recorded minus-16 marks.
For Brooklyn, Mitch Creek (strainedright adductor), Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (strained left adductor), Shabazz Napier (strained right hamstring) and Alan Williams (left ankle sprain) were out with injuries.
Kenneth Faried, Jordan McLaughlin, Nuni Omot and Theo Pinson took DNP-CDs.
