2. Ed Davis, backup center extraordinaire

Ed Davis had another big game Wednesday against the Cleveland Cavaliers and his impact on this Brooklyn Nets team cannot be overstated.

Davis went for a double-double — his first since joining the Nets in the offseason — in just 17 minutes, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Davis was 4-for-6 from the floor, made both of his free throws and pulled down six of Brooklyn’s eight offensive boards on the night.

He gives the Nets something they lacked most of last season — a quality backup at the center position.

Davis is averaging only 17 minutes per game thus far, but leads the Nets with 8.8 rebounds per game, which is just a crazy statistic. He’s also averaging 6.8 points per game while hitting 11-of-17 from the floor and 5-of-7 at the line.

Small sample size, to be sure, but that works out to an average of 18.5 rebounds per 36 minutes for Davis.

How in the heck did the Portland Trail Blazers decide to let him walk?
