Brooklyn Nets: Player grades from a Halloween thriller
By Phil Watson
The Brooklyn Nets could have used more Ed Davis on a night when Jarrett Allen was in deep foul trouble.
The problem was that Davis had the same issue.
Still, he was very effective in his minutes, posting his second double-double as a Net. But there were some blemishes as well.
Davis turned the ball over three times, once on yet another illegal screen and once on a traveling call that was just … wow. He cut to the basket, took a pass, maybe didn’t make the catch cleanly and took a extra step … or five.
Davis made an impact when he was in the game, but he could have had a greater impact had he been able to keep himself on the floor.
A couple of his fouls were just silly and at some point, the veteran needs to catch on to the NBA officiating point of emphasis this season on freedom of movement, because he continues to move and grab after setting picks. The officials are ringing those up regularly.
After a couple of games of being treated to a very good Shabazz Napier, the Brooklyn Nets were introduced Wednesday to the Shabazz Napier that got himself traded twice in his first two years in the league.
Napier was locked in on the basket Wednesday night and was over-dribbling the heck out of the ball before taking off on drives that had little to no shot of success.
Coach Kenny Atkinson likely saw the same thing, because Napier did not make a second-half return after the Nets were a whopping minus-13 in Napier’s six minutes of action in the first half.
