Brooklyn Nets: Player grades from uneven showing against Timberwolves

The Brooklyn Nets on Friday only sporadically showed the solid ball movement and defensive intensity of late in a 112-102 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Black Friday turned out to be a pretty dark day for the Brooklyn Nets in a 112-102 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves at Barclays Center as the Nets opened a four-game homestand.

The Nets (8-12) led until late in the first half, when the Timberwolves (8-11) closed the second quarter with an 8-2 run to take a 54-49 lead into the break.

Minnesota took control of the game with a big third quarter, outscoring Brooklyn 35-23, and the Nets were never able to get closer than four points in the fourth period.

Brooklyn shot worse than 45 percent for the third straight game and the sixth time in the last seven overall, a stretch in which the Nets are just 2-5, hitting 41.8 percent (33-for-79) on Friday, and compounded the shooting trouble with 19 turnovers, their most since posting 20 in a loss to the Indiana Pacers on Oct. 20.

The Nets also failed to get 10 offensive rebounds for the first time in 10 games, finishing with nine, their fewest since getting nine in a loss to the Houston Rockets on Nov. 2.

Brooklyn also had its third straight lackluster shooting performance from 3-point range, hitting just 14-of-45 (31.1 percent). In the last three games, the Nets are 36-for-118 from deep, a less-than-stellar 30.5 percent.

The Nets had the maximum five players inactive for Friday’s matinee performance, with rookies Rodions Kurucs and Dzanan Musa on assignment to the Long Island Nets of the NBA G League, two-way players Theo Pinson and Alan Williams also in the G League.

Caris LeVert remained inactive due to his dislocated right foot.

Of the 12 players active, Treveon Graham did not dress as he remains out with a left hamstring injury. The 11 players in uniform all saw action Friday.
