Brooklyn Nets: Player grades from Christmas Eve eve win over Suns
By Phil Watson
Jarrett Allen had a solid night for the Brooklyn Nets on the glass and didn’t turn the ball over, as he continues to make strides there.
He should put the video of his corner 3 on a loop and burn it into his mind — feet set; no panic, no rush and a nice, easy release. His form is solid when he has time to set up, but he can get in a hurry out there.
If I could give Allen one gift for Christmas, it would be a friendly reminder that when he’s around the bucket, the backboard can be his friend — Allen tends to try to take everything directly over the rim. He’s got a soft touch, but why increase the degree of difficulty when you don’t have to?
Jared Dudley, the reserve, continues to be a phenomenon for the Nets, as his strong play off the bench continues.
Dudley is driving more, which is in turn freeing up space for his deep shot, which he’s in turn knocking down with more regularity.
After struggling from 3-point range through the first six weeks of the season, hitting 20-for-67 (29.9 percent) in October and November, Dudley has found the range in December, where he is 12-for-29 (41.4 percent).
While D’Angelo Russell and Spencer Dinwiddie are the floor leaders for the Nets, Dudley has taken on the role of wise sage and is now backing it up with terrific play when he gets his minutes.
It’s been a winning combination of late for Brooklyn.
