A holiday shoutout to Stan Van Gundy and his former Pistons

Dear Stan:

The Brooklyn Nets just wanted to pass along a quick note of thanks for your role in helping deliver Spencer Dinwiddie to us a couple of years ago.

You may not remember Spencer very well — he was difficult to spot all the way down at the end of your bench and not visible at all when you sent him to Grand Rapids.

In case you hadn’t noticed, Spencer is doing well. He was up for an award last year — Most Improved Player — and this year might make another trip to the NBA Awards as a Sixth Man of the Year contender.

Heck, he might even mess around and get an All-Star spot this year the way he’s been playing for the last month or so.

Rest easy knowing that Spencer has found a home here in Brooklyn, now and for the immediate future (our gift to him was a new three-year contract extension).

Given the great, consistent point guard play your old team gets from Reggie Jackson, we’re sure they don’t even miss Spencer.

We’ve made sure we won’t miss him soon, either.
