The best of holidays to Gar Forman and John Paxson:

Dear Gar and Pax:

We already sent a note to Stan Van Gundy to thank him, but the Brooklyn Nets would be remiss if we didn’t also make sure you both know how grateful we are that you decided to deposit Spencer Dinwiddie on the burn pile.

Frankly, we’re even more amazed that you decided to to it twice in 3½ months and left him boxed up for your NBA G League affiliate.

That’s where we found him two years ago and we couldn’t be happier. Spencer is doing well here. He’s happy and productive (and about to be a little wealthier — like almost 10 times wealthier).

You were trying to win now in 2016-17; totally get that. And you did a heck of a job at it with that .500 record and winning two straight on the road against the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

(We’re not mentioning the four straight losses after that, including three of them at home — two of those by 17 and 22 points.)

Like we passed along to Stan, Spencer is doing great stuff here. He’s evolved into one of the best sixth men in the league and might be a contender for an All-Star berth in February.

Hope all is going well for you and your rebuild. Your new coach seems like he should be able to charm his guys to the next level, for sure.
