Brooklyn Nets: Player grades from night to forget in Charlotte
By Phil Watson
This grade landed at “C” simply because there was so much great and so much bad in just 17 minutes that it all sort of balanced out.
Let’s start with the good: Allen was a presence inside with two blocks, 10 rebounds — six on the offensive window — and got to the foul line for eight attempts, knocking down six.
But …
Allen also was just 1-for-8 from the floor, matching the worst shooting performance of his career from Dec. 27, 2017, in a road loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, and turned the ball over five times.
Offensively, Allen just seemed to be in a rush. Everything felt a tad too quick, a bit out of control, as if he was trying to get shots up after being limited to just five attempts in Wednesday’s double-overtime win.
He’s got terrific footwork and a deft touch, he just needs to trust those tools to get the job done without being in a panic to score.
It would be hard to have much more of an impact in limited minutes than Shabazz Napier did on Friday.
He hit all five of his shots, scoring 11 points in 11 minutes after being on the bench for seven of the last 10 games.
The Nets opted to use Napier at the off-guard spot and he was able to find some holes to the basket that evaded other players and really gave Brooklyn a needed jolt, particularly with his seven early points in the fourth quarter as the Nets chipped away at the Charlotte lead.
It was certainly a testament to his professionalism, keeping himself ready to contribute despite not getting much of an opportunity over the last three weeks.
