Long Island Nets game with Erie BayHawks suspended in 4th quarter

The NBA G League game Saturday between the Long Island Nets and Erie BayHawks was suspended in the 4th quarter due to poor court conditions.

With the Long Island Nets leading the Erie BayHawks 88-87 with 9:40 remaining in the fourth quarter Saturday night at Erie Insurance Arena, officials suspended play due to water dripping onto the court.

The BayHawks announced Saturday night the game would be rescheduled at a later date, but that no decision had been made on that date.

According to Victor Fernandes of the Erie Times-News, the problem stemmed from blowing snow outside the arena in Erie, Pa.

The suspension of play spoiled the night for the BayHawks, who were wearing special Martin Luther King Day uniforms in advance of Monday’s holiday.

Long Island (18-8), which now holds a two-game lead over the second-place Westchester Knicks in the G League’s Eastern Conference, is scheduled to play again Monday afternoon at Nassau Coliseum against Raptors 905 for a 3 p.m. Eastern tip.

The BayHawks’ next scheduled game is Wednesday, also at home, against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

The Nets were playing Saturday without center Alan Williams, on a two-way contract with the parent Brooklyn Nets.

Williams, who missed much of last season with a knee injury, was not on the trip to Pennsylvania with the team after playing in the first game of the back-to-back set at home on Friday night.

Long Island is also still without rookie guard Jordan McLaughlin, who has not played since Dec. 22 because of a strained left hamstring.

The Nets’ other two-way player, Theo Pinson, started Saturday night at small forward for Long Island.

Erie, the G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks, had both of Atlanta’s two-way players — guard Jaylen Adams and forward Alex Poythress — in the starting lineup and Terrence Jones, a former first-round pick of the Houston Rockets, had already scored 26 points off the bench.
