For the 6-foot-5, 190-pound McCall, this will be the first time he’s been on an active NBA roster during the regular season. He signed deals late in the preseason and was subsequently waived in both 2017 and 2018 in order to be allocated to the Long Island roster.
McCall appeared in 23 games, starting 11, this season with Long Island, averaging 10.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals in 25.3 minutes per game, shooting 47 percent overall and 23.5 percent on 2.2 attempts from 3-point range per game.
He missed 11 games in November and December with a sprained left foot.
McCall, a native of Philadelphia, began his collegiate career in 2012 at Niagara University before transferring after his sophomore season to Tennessee State University.
In his two years at Tennessee State, McCall was named Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year and All-OVC first team both seasons, averaging 14.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.6 steals per game over his junior and senior seasons.
After being undrafted in 2017, McCall was with Brooklyn in the 2017 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, but did not play. He later signed with the Nets in October 2017 before being waived and allocated to the G League.
With Long Island in 2017-18, he averaged 9.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 steals in 28.2 minutes per game, shooting 49.6 percent overall and 30.9 percent on 1.5 deep attempts per game. He appeared in 37 games, starting 31.
McCall sprained his left wrist in late February and was released by Long Island on March 9, 2018.
After re-signing with Brooklyn on Oct. 12, he was waived a day later and once again allocated to the G-League Nets.
McCall comes to Brooklyn off a strong performance on Sunday for Long Island, scoring 14 points with three rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block in 22 minutes off the bench in a 137-132 victory over the visiting Memphis Hustle.
He was 7-for-10 from the floor, missing his only 3-point attempt and going 0-for-2 at the line. His G-League career-high of 22 points came earlier this season in a Dec. 29 victory over the Capital City Go-Go.
McCall will be available Wednesday when the Nets host the Washington Wizards at Barclays Center.
