Nikola Mirotic

The Milwaukee Bucks would like to keep Nikola Mirotic, but they may not be able to afford him based on their current salary cap restrictions,.

The Bucks do hold Mirotic’s Bird rights, so they could exceed next year’s cap to retain him — provided they are willing to keep his $18.75 million cap hold on the books.

This year Mirotic’s game took a nice leap, showing that in the right system he can thrive. Mirotic might fetch a very nice contract from another team which would take the Brooklyn Nets out of the discussion in trying to sign him.

He averaged 15.2 points per game and 7.4 rebounds. He is a career 36 percent 3-point shooter. At 6-foot-10 he would be a nice fit as a stretch power forward.

His offense and rebounding are a good fit but Mirotic’s defensive shortcomings and lack of athleticism might make Nets general manager Sean Marks leery of going after him too aggressively.

However, if Mirotic’s market value proves to be underwhelming the Nets might look to snag him at a discount.
