Brooklyn Nets: Under-the-radar free agent fits to consider
By Evan Decruz
James Ennis
James Ennis is reportedly declining his $1.3 million player option for next season with the Philadelphia 76ers in search of a better long-term deal for more than that on the open market.
Philadelphia has cap issues as well as they will try and re-sign Jimmy Butler, Tobias Harris and J.J. Redick. This would leave Ennis up for grabs and the Brooklyn Nets might make a pitch.
Ennis turns 29 this summer, but despite his age doesn’t have much tread on him. For his career he only averages 20.3 minutes per game in only nine seasons. He might have a lot left in the tank.
He is a respectable 35.7 percent 3-point shooter for his career as well as a 45.7 percent shooter from the field. He’s a solid 79.3 percent free throw shooter too. At 6-foot-7, he’s a smart role player and could be solid injury insurance for Brooklyn’s backcourt.
Honorable Mentions
DeMarcus Cousins – Great post player, rebounder, versatile.
Boban Marjanovic – Big backup center, rebounds, fundamentals
Markieff Morris – Stretch 4
Marcus Morris – Stretch 4
Enes Kanter – Proven backup center, rebounds, tough
Bojan Bodganovic – Reliable scorer, 3-point specialist, former Net
Wayne Ellington – Good shooter, bargain value
Final Notes
The Nets should re-sign Ed Davis and exercise their team option on Shabazz Napier. Brooklyn should look at all the free agents in this article after they figure out where they fit accordingly after the major free agents sign.
