NBA Mock Draft 2.0: Narrowing down the picks after lottery, combine
By Phil Watson
Bruno Fernando is one of the players who helped himself a bit at the combine with his performance in drills at the Chicago session, but didn’t help himself by sitting out of the scrimmages while there.
A native of Angola, Fernando is still a work in progress as an offensive player. He’s still slow to recognize when double teams are coming, a problem that leads him to taking the ball into bad situations down low.
He’s improved his ball-handling, but can still be turnover-prone for a big, averaging 2.8 giveaways in 30.0 minutes per game for the Terps last season to go with 13.6 points and 10.6 rebounds.
Not a 3-point threat at all at this point (he was 3-for-10 this season), Fernando did knock down 60.7 percent of his shots overall.
Fernando has the size at 6-foot-10 and 240 pounds to go with quick athletic skills of a smaller player. But he’s willing to share the ball on offense and is already a big-time rebounder who plays with unusual composure.
Not a bad guy to bring in as Al Horford hits the later stages of his career.
