NBA Mock Draft 2.0: Narrowing down the picks after lottery, combine
By Phil Watson
A Chicago product who lacks the prototypical size for an NBA wing at 6-foot-4, Talen Horton-Tucker compensates with a 7-foot-1 wingspan and a strong body at 235 pounds.
He projects to be able to defend 1-3 at the NBA level and he should be an above-average rebounder for his size because of his ability to use his bulk to block out to go with his length.
Offensively, he shot only only 40.6 percent overall and 30.8 percent on 4.5 3-point attempts per game. He is a streaky shooter, but can force things in isolation and takes some bad shots with his jumper as well.
That could be more of a problem at the NBA level, where defenders will be longer and stronger than at the collegiate level. His slow release on his jumper won’t help with that either.
But San Antonio’s developmental system could be tailor-made for Talen, as the Spurs have a history of patience with projects late in the first round who may not be completely NBA-ready.
