NBA Mock Draft 2.0: Narrowing down the picks after lottery, combine
By Phil Watson
The Brooklyn Nets picked up the first pick in the second round from the New York Knicks via the Philadelphia 76ers in the December 2017 trade for Jahlil Okafor and Nik Stauskas and could use that pick for some point guard depth.
Ty Jerome is from nearby New Rochelle and is a deft passer and an efficient 3-point shooter, attributes that mesh well with Kenny Atkinson’s pace-and-space system.
Jerome is not, however, an elite athlete by any stretch of the imagination and projects as a high-IQ guy who could find his niche as a No. 2 point guard.
He can create opportunities for himself and hit 39.9 percent on 5.4 3-point attempts per game as a junior at Virginia, while also averaging 5.5 assists and a surprising 4.2 rebounds a night.
Jerome plays with a lot of swagger, with a knack for clutch shots and the ability to make his teammates better. Defense will be a struggle, as he will have a hard time with NBA speed and quickness, but can be a high-energy backup guard for a good team.
