One of the reasons Rajon Rondo can create problems for coaches is because of how brilliant of a player he is. Rondo is one of the greatest basketball minds of the modern era, if not ever.
He’s called out the oppositions offensive sets as the opponent’s coach signals the play and he usually makes the right play regardless of how high pressure the situation is. Here’s a clip of him pretty much doing so back when he played with the Sacramento Kings.
Having Rondo on the court is literally like having another coach on the floor. He’ll be great during timeouts and in the midst of film sessions, offering his mind’s eye on what he sees. And just like most point guards, he’s constantly communicating what he sees.
During the season and even more during the playoffs, where his play greatly exceeds what should be allowed for a player of his build, Rondo pours over hours and hours of film.
This will again help the coaches as far as game planning, but it also sets a tone and great example for the rest of the team.
The Brooklyn Nets would almost never have to worry about going into a game unprepared.
