Brooklyn Nets: As last year’s veteran leaders leave, what is lost?
By Akbar Best
DeMarre Carroll
DeMarre Carroll spent his last two seasons with the Brooklyn Nets and he was a key foundation piece in creating the culture that Sean Marks and Kenny Atkinson have built.
Although he wasn’t quite able to recapture the play he had under Kenny back with the Atlanta Hawks, he was a quality veteran player for the Nets.
Multiple times throughout the season when Kenny stressed the Nets doing better on the boards, it was usually DeMarre Carroll who stepped up the energy and effort. He usually ended up having double-digit boards in the games after Kenny speaking on the effort.
That’s a great way to lead by example. He always played hard and he was a solid defender. Of all the veterans, his impact will be the least missed. Taurean Prince, to be acquired in the Allen Crabbe trade, provides the Nets with a younger and better alternative to DeMarre Carroll.
Thus far in his career he is a more consistent 3-point shooter and a better defender. May Carroll enjoy his time with the San Antonio Spurs.
