Young players don’t show a lot in limited run

The Brooklyn Nets have three rookies on their roster in Las Vegas that are under team control, including 2019 second-round picks Nicolas Claxton and Jaylen Hands, as well as Isaia Cordinier, a 2016 second-round selection by the Atlanta Hawks whose rights were acquired last year from the Atlanta Hawks.

Hands, a 6-foot-3 point guard from UCLA, got the most burn on Friday, logging 15 minutes, and he showed flashes as a floor leader with two assists and a steal. He finished with eight points on 2-of-6 shooting, missing all three of his 3-point attempts and going 4-for-4 at the line.

Hands also grabbed eight rebounds, but turned the ball over three times.

Cordinier, a wing from France, got 14 minutes and scored one point, missing both of his shot attempts, including a 3-pointer.

Cordinier had two rebounds, an assist, two turnovers and a very strong block on Yudai Baba, who appeared to have a breakaway before Cordinier chased him down.

Claxton’s only two points of the game came on a strong drive to the rim in the second half, when he threw down an emphatic two-hand dunk, but he didn’t show a lot in his 13 minutes.

He was 1-for-3 from the floor, missing a corner 3, and had a rebound and a steal.

But Claxton had long stretches where it was easy to forget he was out there and that passive play will have to be corrected moving forward both in the Summer League and for training camp.
