How will Kyrie be in the locker room?

If it’s one narrative that Brooklyn Nets fans are going to grow tired of—and quickly—is that Kyrie Irving is a disruptor in a locker room and will hold the culture they’ve built hostage. It won’t be any less frustrating having Boston Celtics fans waiting for every opportunity to tell Nets faithful “I told you so” anytime Irving’s body language doesn’t look up to par.

At the end of the day, did Irving have issues in leading the Celtics locker room? Of course. But does that mean his leadership qualities or lack thereof in this instance, will parlay over to Brooklyn, the organization he had the luxury of choosing this free agency period? Not necessarily.

He has other veterans in the locker room to look to in times of need; he won’t be alone in commanding this locker room. He’s built friendships with integral pieces of this team’s roster, the importance of chemistry can’t be overstated.

Look, it didn’t work out in Boston…and in Cleveland, and yes, he has to take responsibility in the reasoning behind that. However, Brooklyn is a place he considers home, he’s going to want this to work with every fiber in his being, this is his chance to rewrite the narrative placed on him.

If his on-court abilities translate to victories for the Nets, no one will bat an eye; but, if this going on a multiple game losing skid—national media will apply pressure, how he reacts will be crucial next season.
