Brooklyn Nets: 10 Best playoff performances of 2010s
4. Jared Dudley, The “Brooklyn vs. The World” Game, 2019 First Round Game 4
Technically, this could also be the “what-if” for the Nets. If a foul was called on Ben Simmons defending Jarrett Allen on the Nets last possession of the game, Allen sunk both, and the Nets won in overtime, this game would be top 2 on this list.
Still, Jared Dudley turned the Nets into the lovable underdogs. His persistent taunting of Simmons, his 3 ball proficiency (airballs aside), and his veteran presence was topped off by taking one for the team. Following a hard foul by Joel Embiid on Allen, Dudley rushes over, shoves Embiid, and manages to get into a fight with seemingly the entire 76er organization.
Both Dudley and Jimmy Butler were ejected, and I’m sure Dudley would be the first to tell you it was more than worth it. From a purist’s perspective, this was a darned good game of basketball. Three lead changes in the last minute capped off a back-and-forth affair that the Nets couldn’t get on the right side of.
Dudley’s heroics and tomfoolery from this game surely helped earn him a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers last offseason. The quirky veteran transcends generations and proved he can not only contribute but be an affable presence on a winning team.
