Brooklyn Nets: Kevin Durant to join Barack Obama’s Virtual Graduation Speech
By Sameer Kumar
Barack Obama will deliver a virtual speech to 2020 graduates with Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant being one of many celebrities invited to speak.
With everything going on in the world right now, graduation ceremonies all over the country have either been canceled or postponed. However, former President Barack Obama still plans on delivering an inspirational commencement speech to everyone who is scheduled to graduate from high school and college this year with Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant being one of many celebrities who will speak at this event, according to Angie Martoccio of Rolling Stone.
The online event, called Dear Class of 2020, will be streamed live on YouTube on June 6th.
The June 6th event will be Obama’s second public commencement address to all students graduating, as the 44th President of the United States had a chance to sit down on May 16th and speak to the new graduates:
It’s refreshing to see Durant join Obama and take part in this initiative that will provide hope to many students out there who will be entering the real world at a very unprecedented time.
There are so many young kids out there that look up to athletes like Durant, and it’s important for these figures to be as civically involved as they possibly can and try to inspire these kids to find their passion and use their talent to the best of their ability.
This isn’t the first time Durant has used his platform to be an influence in our society, as he recently announced a documentary called Basketball County: In the Water, which I touch up on more in a separate article.
Durant has also started his own media company called The Boardroom, which gives fans a deeper look at various different topics in the sports world such as player empowerment and women in sports. In an ever-evolving society, those are very important conversations to be had.
Congratulations to everybody that is a part of the Class of 2020!
