While players decide if they want to return for the NBA restart, the Brooklyn Nets have a big decision of their own: who is the next head coach?
When Kenny Atkinson was unexpectedly relieved of his duties as the Brooklyn Nets head coach in March, fans couldn’t help but wonder if that was the right decision to make at that time.
For better or for worse, though, Atkinson is out of the picture and Jacque Vaughn is the coach (at least for the time being) three months since Atkinson’s departure.
While the Nets and Vaughn prepare for the NBA’s restart in Orlando, the Nets and their front office make their own preparations to hire a new head coach this offseason.
Rumor has it that Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant want a “blue-collar, big-name” head coach. Names like Jason Kidd and Tyronn Lue have been tossed around, and it remains to be seen if they will emerge as the favorites for the position.
While either name would fit right into what Durant or Irving are looking for, it would still be wise for the Nets to expand their search and consider somewhat overlooked candidates. With that said, here are three dark horse head coaching choices who could be great fits for a Nets team searching for an identity, as well as a leader for years to come.
