6 Best Players in Brooklyn Nets History
By Jerry Trotta
1. Julius Erving
Dr. J is a God for the Nets franchise.
The Nets have had a large number of superstars pass through their organization in their 53-year history, but Julius Erving is the only one that can say that he delivered on his championship billing.
With Dr. J leading the way, the then-New York Nets captured two ABA championships in the early 1970s. One of the most talented players to ever lace ‘em up, the Hall of Famer averaged 28.2 points, 10.9 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 2.3 steals and 2.1 blocks per game while shooting 50.8% from the floor with the franchise.
Most basketball fans claim that Erving’s career didn’t take off until he landed with the Philadelphia 76ers, but he entered the NBA as a two-time champ and three-time MVP Award winner with the Nets. That tells an entirely different story.
As far as where he ranks in Nets history from a statistical standpoint, he is first in player efficiency rating, sixth in field goals and seventh in points. That’s ridiculous when you consider that he spent just three seasons with the organization. His stint with the Nets might have been short-lived, but Erving accomplished more than any other player in franchise history, and that makes him a no-brainer for the No. 1 spot on this list.
