Levern Tart was an underrated player of the late 1960s and early 1970s generation of basketball.

The late Levern Tart is slept on as it pertains to his stardom in the ABA. Back in 1969, he shined for the Nets, who were the New York Americans at the time. That season, he was named an All-Star after logging 24.2 points per game, which led the Americans by a wide margin, surprisingly enough — Les Hunter ranked second on the team with a 16.4 average.

The Bradley University product was a star of an Americans team that finished fourth in their division with a 39-45 record and advanced as far as the Eastern Division Semifinals in the playoffs.

Want to hear another fun stat? Tart popped off for 46 points in the opening game of that series versus the Kentucky Colonels. As far as pure scorers are concerned, Tart was as underrated as they come in that generation. With that being said, we seriously doubt that Nets fans know much about him, let alone the fact that he led the team in scoring in 1969.
