Nets owner Joe Tsai denies rumors that linked him to Mets bid.

Former Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez and fiancee Jennifer Lopez are assembling a star-studded group of partners to bolster their bid to purchase the Mets. The list reportedly includes current and former NFL studs like Travis Kelce, DeMarco Murray and Brian Urlacher, among others.

Ironically enough, it was NBA veteran Mason Plumlee, who is also a part of the entourage, who created controversy when he claimed that Nets owner Joe Tsai was a member of the group, which is exactly how rumors get started.

“Spoiler alert: we’ve now got another billionaire sports owner in the mix as a partner — Joe Tsai — who brings our collective net worth to the top of the bid list,” Plumlee wrote on his blog.

The 56-year-old is reportedly worth over $12 billion, so he obviously has the money to join A-Rod and Co., but to call looking to become a minority owner of a third franchise — he also owns the New York Liberty of the WNBA– a poor optic would be an understatement, especially when you consider that the Nets play on YES and the Mets are signed to rival SNY.

In light of the rumors, Tsai was forced to perform some damage control, as he took to Twitter to deny the rumors. Shortly after the billionaire came clean, Plumlee deleted his post.

There’s no denying that Tsai’s seemingly endless surplus of finances would’ve strengthened  Rodriguez’s bid, he’s just not interested in transitioning to baseball right now.

Whatever the case, it really makes you ponder why Plumlee was led to believe the Nets owner was part of the celebrity couple’s group, or why it was OK to say that side of things out loud.

There’s still time if you’re interested, Joe. The Rodriguez-Lopez’s would love your money.
