Is Tyronn Lue the best fit as the Brooklyn Nets head coach?

Per reports, the Brooklyn Nets front office, specifically general manger Sean Marks, is willing to give interim head coach Jacque Vaughn and the rest of his staff the necessary time to prove themselves.

How sturdy are the legs these rumors stand upon? Well, let’s just say that Brooklyn’s search to find a replacement Kenny Atkinson, who was shockingly fired back in March, is on hold for the time being.

However, if the Nets were to go in another direction, it’s obvious that they would pursue coaches that boast a track record of getting along with superstars.

For a team that’s highlighted by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, that makes perfect sense and makes it unsurprising that ESPN analyst Jalen Rose is a firm believer that Tyronn Lue, who’s currently serving as an assistant to Doc Rivers on the Los Angeles Clippers, is the perfect candidate.

“If I was able to hire who I wanted to hire for the Nets job next year, this is a layup: Tyronn Lue. I’d get Tyronn Lue based on the relationship (with Irving),” Rose told the New York Post. “He’s proven. He’s an assistant with the Clippers, probably getting a championship this year; I wouldn’t even have to think twice about that.”

It’s hard to disagree with Rose’s logic here. After all, following his stint with the Boston Celtics, it became apparent that teams need to cater to Irving’s unpredictable personality. If the Nets hire a coach he respects, the six-time All-Star probably keeps his mouth shout — in terms of criticizing teammates, not regarding social issues — and focuses on winning games.

That’s undoubtedly a variable that Brooklyn should consider, as past rumors indicated that the organization was growing concerned with Irving’s mood swings. Furthermore, with Kyrie and LeBron James leading the way, Lue took Cleveland to three straight NBA Finals from 2016 to 2018. The parallels between those Cavaliers teams to this version of the Nets are obvious and absolutely work in Lue’s favor.

We’re not saying that Rose is as informed as credible insiders, but we can’t deny that Lue would be one of the best fits for the Nets if they choose to move on from Vaughn.
