Nets star Kevin Durant got caught off guard by a fan calling LeBron the GOAT.

Kevin Durant doesn’t have much worrying to do these days, considering his boys in the bubble have gotten it done time and again, vaulting the Nets to the No. 7 seed without his heroic efforts.

KD, it turns out, is spending his down time shopping, taking his mind off the 2020-21 season, when it’ll be up to him to make sure this squad emerges in the Eastern Conference, allowing him to cement his legacy.

Oh, but speaking of legacy: if you’re going to attempt the GOAT conversation around him, you’d better carefully weigh your options before firing off at the mouth.

One store employee in Los Angeles — at the urging of his coworkers, who knew exactly what was about to happen — prompted Durant this week by letting him know he believes LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time. KD? Well …

And did you expect any other type of reaction from the Slim Reaper? “That’s crazy,” indeed.

Durant’s always going to be defined by his rivalry with LeBron, but it’s been a relatively one-sided affair thus far, thanks to a superior cast of characters.

Bron dispatched of the Baby Thunder in the 2012 Finals, but after the Warriors called Durant in to supplement their efforts after blowing a 3-1 lead to the Cavs, he took Golden State to a different stratosphere, one that LeBron’s amazing play and cast of misfits couldn’t crack.

Someday, depending on the way his legacy plays out in Brooklyn (sorry, Colin Cowherd!), Durant might find himself the subject of a similar conversation, as Damian Lillard tries to wriggle away from a Foot Locker employee with an agenda.

For now, all KD can do is smile, nod, and wait to get back on the court.
