Nets: 3 head coach options that would be perfect for Kevin Durant
By Jerry Trotta
2. Tyronn Lue
Fans in Brooklyn are just going to have to accept that Tyronn Lue is being seriously considered to fill the Nets’ head coaching vacancy, and the more we think about it, the more we are actually warming up to the idea. Hey, it’s not Jason Kidd! At least when Lue gets overwhelmed by the influence of superstars, he delivers results!
For starters, the Los Angeles Clippers assistant has plenty of experience coaching superstars and was extremely successful in doing so. With Irving and LeBron James running the show, he led the Cleveland Cavaliers to three consecutive Finals appearances (which included a championship) from 2015 to 2018.
While Lue’s reunion with Irving is ideal, he undoubtedly has the respect of Durant, who played against him in two of those Finals with the Golden State Warriors.
In the end, hiring a head coach who has experience in the playoffs, managing the egos of superstars and overcoming internal turmoil should be the Nets’ number one priority. The 43-year-old checks all of those boxes.
