Brooklyn Nets shooting guard Joe Harris’ comments on re-signing with the franchise will sit well with fans.

The lack of buzz on the James Harden front in recent days has allowed Brooklyn Nets fans to focus most of their attention on the other roster moves the organization has made since the onset of free agency.

While trading for the disgruntled superstar is still very much in the realm of possibility, at this point it looks as though GM Sean Marks is going to play hardball in an effort to see if the Rockets bring down their absurd asking price. In the meantime, however, fans can take solace in the fact that Brooklyn has put an emphasis on surrounding the likes of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving with elite shooting.

The decision to re-sign guard Joe Harris, in particular, was quietly one of the best moves any team has made so far this offseason, as he’s more than capable of being a part of a starting five on a championship-caliber roster.

There was probably a point in time where Nets fans though they would lose Harris to another suitor, but his latest comments about returning to the franchise prove that Brooklyn holds a special place in his heart.

"“What’s up, Nets fans. Just wanted to shoot a quick message, say how grateful I am to be back with this unbelievable organization,” said Harris in a message to the fan base. “This place gave me an opportunity four years ago. I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else — playing for a great coach, great front office-led, great ownership, great teammates and the best fans in the league. Can’t wait to get going.”"

You might say that these comments are typical for a player who just inked a life-changing contract, but we hold no doubts that Harris is speaking from the heart here. After all, the Nets took a huge gamble on him after he was released by Orlando back in 2016 following foot surgery and he’s enjoyed tremendous success in the four years since.

Imagine thinking that Harris was actually going to sign with one of the Hawks, Hornets or Knicks while shirking the championship-aspirational Nets? All of those teams, with the exception of the latter, have spent their offseason throwing ridiculous money at free agents who otherwise don’t deserve it.

The fact of the matter is that Harris belongs in Brooklyn.

$75 million over four years might seem like a lot for a player with a limited skillset, but that’s simply what the market commands for elite marksmanship. The Virginia product has clearly established himself as one of the best pound-for-pound shooters in the league, and his production (and efficiency) could skyrocket in the Nets’ revamped offense.
