Nets stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving hopped on IG live together on Saturday instead of talking to the media.
Just a few days after Nets star Kyrie Irving declared noncompliance with the media in a cryptic statement straight out of, well, Irving’s familiar trajectory, he hopped on Instagram Live with fellow BK superstar Kevin Durant.
Nets fans will be very hyped up by the palpable energy of the duo.
But a lot of NBA fans will…not enjoy Irving’s philosophy or the directions this friendly chat takes.
It began innocently enough, and provided us with the only clip Nets fans really need: An exhaling Durant reflecting on exactly how long it’s taken him to get back to this place in his journey. After so many months, it’s not only finally time for him to unite with the superstar he schemed with at the 2019 All-Star Game. It’s also simply time to play ball.
Yes, Nets fans, we’re finally only a few hours away from the on-court play being the story instead of off-the-record conversations.
But until then, there’s a reason these chats have and will continue to dominate the narrative.
Naturally, things got a…bit more off-the-wall as the session dragged on, with Irving hitting Durant with such quips as, “In a past life, I was you. What you are now, that’s what I’m…up here! Same mentality.”
Yes, it’s safe to be a Nets fan and still admit you didn’t love all of this, though it’s refreshingly real.
Irving and Durant are set to be finally unveiled in tandem on Sunday night against the Wizards in a preseason battle, and it’s going to be entirely strange to finally witness the start of something big in person.
Hopefully, we see a perfect two-man game refined through jam sessions like this IG Live meetup, and not a rusty clash of two big personalities that aren’t ready for primetime.
