The Brooklyn Nets continue to be involved in news unrelated to basketball.
It really is a bad look when all of the talking heads and know-nothing fans end up being right for any amount of time, but Brooklyn Nets supporters have to admit that’s been the case so far this season.
The Kyrie Irving situation, despite his good deeds, will not be viewed in a positive light. Even though the James Harden trade was an earth-shattering blockbuster, the Nets cut out a big piece of their identity in dealing away Caris LeVert and Jarrett Allen, and now there’s even more pressure for the team to win a title within the next two seasons.
As their play on the court continues to suffer in the form of Brooklyn playing down to its competition in the form of back-to-back losses to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Kevin Durant is here to fuel more off-court flames by calling out the personalities on TNT. Why must this team inherit more distractions?
First and foremost, we are not sitting here saying Durant shouldn’t be doing this. We’re more so just wondering why the start of the season has hardly focused on the actual game of basketball, and when it does, it’s all of the negative aspects of it falling into the spotlight. The bad defense. The lack of depth. The injuries. The inability to hit clutch shots. The lack of clarity when it comes to roles.
Nets fans just don’t need more of it! We know it’s early in the season and the Nets have the same amount of wins as the second-place Bucks, but Brooklyn sitting at No. 7 in the East and continuing to grab headlines like this certainly puts bad vibes around a potential championship campaign.
Not only did Durant take a shot at Charles Barkley, but he also took aim at Shaquille O’Neal for his postgame interview with Donovan Mitchell, which went viral earlier this week. Again on Instagram, Durant commented on a relevant post and said, “Them old heads need to go enjoy retirement. These boys have coaches they work with everyday lol.”
The buzz surrounding this star-studded team just feels non-existent and that’s not right. This is supposed to be an electrifying season regardless of the circumstances, not one shrouded in doubt and controversy when we already have enough of that with the global pandemic.
The good news? The Nets have the Heat tonight, meaning they’ll have a much better chance to win since Miami is a playoff team (they’ve played much better against those opponents). A victory will help with these distractions for sure.
Nets: Will James Harden or Kyrie Irving play more without ball in new offense?
Given the history of these two, Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving looks like the more likely choice to play off-ball as opposed to James Harden.
