2. Clint Capela

In an ideal world, the Brooklyn Nets could look to re-associate Clint Capela with the man who essentially made him the $90 million deal he signed with the Houston Rockets by using DeAndre Jordan as the main piece in a deal.

Due to the Irving-Durant-Jordan trio making the decision to join the Nets together, though, it will instead be — you guessed it — Joe Harris who would need to be dealt.

You may ask yourself why Brooklyn would trade for a player whose skill set matches Jordan’s so redundantly by trading away a player whose shooting fits so well with the #ScaryHours trio in Harris.

Here’s what I’m thinking…

A Harris-Capela swap works straight up, but the former All-ACC guard could garner more of a return in a hypothetical trade. Sean Marks can replace a lot of his skills by asking for Kevin Huerter as well (while also adding whatever deal/deals were necessary to make it happen), while also pairing Harden back up with Capela.

Capela’s minutes could be heavily staggered with Harden’s, whether he can usurp Jordan in the starting lineup or not. With Harris gone and only one of Jordan/Capela starting (unless Steve Nash wanted to get weird with it), Jeff Green could rejoin the starting lineup and enable Kevin Durant to slide down to the small forward spot.

The Nets may not be able to directly replace Harris’ shooting with the Huerter swap, but Brooklyn will likely attract free agents on the buyout market, making a player of Harris’ skill not exactly 100% needed at his contract value.

Having solid depth at the 5 could be the key to overcoming the size of the Los Angeles Lakers…and even the Philadelphia 76ers (Joel Embiid, Dwight Howard). Capela would shore up the center spot and reunite with the best teammate he has ever played with.
