The Brooklyn Nets got back to their winning ways on Monday night against San Antonio, but fans were sweating out what should have been a fairly convincing victory. The Nets blew a 108-98 lead with just over two minutes remaining in regulation thanks to some costly turnovers and missed layups.

The Spurs hit multiple threes in the final minute, including a wild Dejounte Murray shot from the top of the arc that sent the game to overtime after Kyrie Irving bizarrely chose to leave time on the clock by taking (and missing) a shot at the rim on the previous possession.

When all was said and done, however, Brooklyn pulled away in the extra quarter for a 124-113 win to improve their record to 23-13. Amazingly enough, the near-collapse actually helped the Nets snap a historic stretch of horrible luck playing in San Antonio, as they hadn’t won a game on the Spurs’ home floor since 2003.

That’s 18 years worth of consecutive losses, and head coach Steve Nash had a spot-on reaction when he was informed of the streak during his postgame presser.

Nets fans will love Steve Nash’s reaction to the team’s win over the Spurs.

In all honesty, that probably would’ve been our raw reaction, too. After all, the Nets’ last win on the road against the Spurs came in Game 2 of the 2003 NBA finals, though the former longtime Western Conference juggernaut eventually won the series 4-1 to capture their second title.

Discounting the playoffs, Brooklyn’s streak of failing to win in San Antonio actually dated back 19 years to 2002, but we won’t spend too much time on that.

What we till touch on, however, is James Harden delivering arguably his best performance since being traded to the Nets. The nine-time Al-Star poured in 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 15 assists with zero turnovers (!) in a whopping 44 minutes on an efficient 52% shooting, including 42.8% on threes. With each game that passes, he’s undoubtedly propelling his name into the MVP conversation.

Harden has been everything the Nets could’ve asked for, and then some, since he was acquired from the Rockets in mid-January, but don’t let his continued dominance distract you from the fact that Nash delivered the goods postgame.

It wasn’t pretty down the stretch, but Harden’s superb performance coupled with Nash’s priceless reaction to Brooklyn’s losing skid in San Antonio should be more than enough to satisfy fans until tip-off against, you guessed it, the free-falling Rockets, who have now lost 12 straight games, on Wednesday night.
