Cam Johnson has dealt with injuries and struggles on the basketball court this season but is still making a major impact in the Brooklyn community.

At an event at the Marcy Houses in Brooklyn last Saturday, which was sponsored by the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), Wellfare, the Nets, and the WNBA Eastern Conference Champion New York Liberty, Johnson distributed Wellfare’s “Eat & Move Better Boxes” to those in need.

According to a media alert from the partners, Eat & Move Better Boxes: “provide households in underserved communities with nutritious food and wellness resources to help them achieve a healthy lifestyle. Each ‘Eat & Move Better Box’ consists of low-sugar, low-salt, and low-fat products like plant-based milk, nutrition bars, zero-sugar seltzers, and protein-packed pasta donated from Wellfare’s roster of brand partners.”

Saturday marked the third distribution event in the partnership between the Liberty, Nets, the Hospital for Special Surgery, and Wellfare.

The Hospital for Special Surgery provided blood pressure screenings, lupus support nutrition education, and assistance with public insurance while distributing yoga mats, resistance bands, and pedometers to encourage and promote active lifestyles.

The Nets strive to do good for the people of Brooklyn

The Nets announced the beginning of this pivotal distribution partnership on November 3, 2022, and jointly issued this press release with their new partners.

“In New York City, there are over 1.5 million people who lack access to nutritious food and wellness resources. That’s why the Brooklyn Nets, New York Liberty and Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) have teamed up with nonprofit organization Wellfare to give back to New Yorkers in need with Eat & Move Better Boxes. Eat & Move Better Boxes are filled with over $200 worth of premium, functional and nutritious packaged groceries like plant-based milk, nutrition bars, zero-sugar seltzers and protein-packed pasta. Additionally, each Eat & Move Better Box will include wellness resources and supplies designed to improve the health and wellbeing of those who need it most. Now we need your help. You can make a one-time or monthly donation to support the program and help nourish New Yorkers in need today.”

It’s great to see the Brooklyn organization giving back to their community.
