1. Nic Claxton

There’s a lot to say about Clax because it combines the shortcomings of Bridges and Johnson. As mentioned earlier, he hasn’t been ‘bad’ for the Nets so far, just the most disappointing.

Let’s start with availability. The 6’11” center has played in just 5 of 13 games thus far.

Moving to the statistical categories, Claxton is averaging 10.2 points and 8.2 rebounds. Not bad, right? Sure, on the surface. However, let me remind you of his expectations for this season: All-Defensive Team and potential Defensive Player of the Year Award candidate.

It’s safe to say that at +5000 odds for Defensive Player of the Year as of Monday, according to FanDuel, and being 28th among centers in defensive win shares (0.086) and 46th among centers in defensive rating (110.3), he’s been a disappointment on the side of the ball he usually thrives in.

At just 24 years old, there’s plenty of room for growth and a lot of potential in Clax, and no, he hasn’t been a bad player per se; it’s just that if the Nets want to make a real push for the playoffs, they need their center to be a driving force behind a defense that currently lacks in many departments.
