Brooklyn Nets Midseason Grades: Front Court Edition
By Tj Porreca
On January 9, the Brooklyn Nets signed Quincy Acy to a 10-day contract.
As of this writing, Acy is still on the roster. It’s unclear if the Nets plan to sign him to a second 10-day contract, but Acy has played well in his limited opportunities.
In three games with the Nets, Acy is averaging 6.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in nine minutes. That’s certainly a small sample size, but hasn’t been bad in his limited chance.
RELATED STORY: What Did Quincy Acy Bring to the Nets?
Acy’s calling card is his hustle. Acy gives all of his effort when he is on the floor, and it’s noticeable in his play. Acy’s grade is rather low due to the small sample size, but it would be very interesting to see how Acy performs if given a second 10-day contract, or if he is eventually signed for the remainder of the season.
Acy was popular with the Dallas Mavericks, before he was ultimately released. In a season in which the Nets are trying to collect talent for the future, it would benefit Brooklyn to at least sign Acy to another 10-day contract.
Acy has bounced around in the NBA after his college days at Baylor. Acy was a second-round pick of the Raptors in 2012. He has since played for the Kings, Knicks and Mavericks before signing with the Nets.
