Nets Rumors: Brook Lopez Trade Talks Heating Up With Pelicans
By Sandy Mui
Trade talks between the Brooklyn Nets and New Orleans Pelicans are heating up as the Nets are still trying to shop starting center Brook Lopez.
Just one day after ESPN reported that the Brooklyn Nets are still seeking two first-round draft picks in exchange for Brook Lopez, it appears that the Nets are beginning to consider other options.
According to Basketball Insiders’ Michael Scotto, the Nets have spoken to the Pelicans about a deal that involves one draft pick and multiple players.

However, another publication, Legion Hoops, claimed that the Pelicans are offering one first-round pick and one player, while the Nets still insist on receiving two first-round picks.
With conflicting reports regarding the intricacies of the deal, it appears that the trade talks are still in their preliminary stages. Additionally, both sides still seem to be in a deadlock while Brooklyn continues to demand two first-round picks for the big man.

Recently, New Orleans has expressed interest in trading for a big man, with Lopez and Philadelphia 76ers‘ Jahlil Okafor as their main targets. The Pelicans were named the frontrunners in landing Okafor and trade talks between the two parties appeared to be in serious stages, but no deal has materialized. Lopez would likely be a second option if New Orleans fails to get Okafor, which is a possible reason to why the Nets and Pelicans are currently in trade conversations.
Lopez has garnered attention on the Nets’ trade block as early as November, when ESPN first reported that Brooklyn was listening to offers for the one-time All-Star. Since then, trade rumors surrounding the 7-footer have emerged regularly.
