It is hard to talk about the Brooklyn Nets in a positive light this year with how poorly the team has performed. But, Zach Lowe recently made a list of 10 things he likes and dislikes from around the league. And one of the things he liked involved the Nets’ broadcast team.

Zach Lowe has become a well-known writer at ESPN. When Lowe has something to say, people tend to listen. Last week, he wrote an article called, “10 things I like and don’t like, including Whiteside’s trick bag.” The article touched on a bunch of different things from around the league, but what stood out was the Brooklyn Nets making the list, and it was actually something Lowe liked.

Lowe shed some light on Brooklyn’s broadcast crew, even calling them “the very best in the league.” It wasn’t the Nets broadcast as a whole that made the list; rather, the “Who Am I?” segment they do every game.

For those unfamiliar with “Who Am I?” it is a game the broadcast crew plays during each Nets contest. How it works:

  • The YES Network producer will gather facts about a player or coach taking part in that evening’s game.
  • A silhouette of a player or coach will pop up on screen, then three facts about that person will be revealed one by one.
  • After all three facts are revealed, the silhouette will change to a picture of the mystery player or coach (or occasionally, a rather unknown member of a team’s staff). The members of YES Network crew have until the picture is unveiled to guess who it is.

Fans at home also feel involved, as they receive the facts at the same time as the crew. The broadcast crew is broken down into three teams that all compete to win each night. By the end of the season, the team with the highest score wins a trophy.

This segment has become so popular that other networks have slowly incorporated their own version of the game, including ESPN.

More from Nothin' But Nets

YES Network producer has incorporated a lot of different segments for the broadcast team through the years. One segment is called “Bird Seed.” In this segment, Ian Eagle gives some facts about teams, players or coaches taking part in a particular evening’s game.

Another segment simply involves Mike Fratello using the telestrator to draw all over the Nets’ upcoming schedule. And probably the most popular segment among fans is “Wear Brooklyn At?” Here, fans send in pictures of themselves wearing their Brooklyn gear through social media. If selected, their photo will appear during the next game’s edition of “Wear Brooklyn At?”

The Brooklyn Nets broadcast crew really tries to do all they can to keep fans invested, and YES Network does a great job in doing so. The team over the past few years has been hard to watch. YES is well aware of that, and they do everything they can to spice it up. Luckily, they have one of the best broadcast crews in the league to help keep fans engaged, and they received a well-deserved mention from Lowe.
