Matchmaking: Brooklyn Nets and Free Agent Guards
Ben McLemore
Coming off his rookie contract, Ben McLemore has an interesting decision to make with a pivotal point of his career coming up. McLemore has gotten off to a rather rocky start in the NBA, so he has plenty of decisions he needs to make and a ton of options to consider in the process.
The number 7 pick of the 2013 NBA Draft has missed nearly 30 games this season and is averaging 7.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. McLemore has only averaged double-digit point totals one time and has seemed to be lost in the shuffle since arriving in Sacramento.
MUST READ: The Present and Future of Marks’ Latest Additions
With Sean Marks offering other restricted free agents offers in the past and their respective teams matching, it’ll be interesting to see if they try to go after McLemore. Sacramento has cleared up a lot of cap space after trading away DeMarcus Cousins to New Orleans though, which should make free agency all the more intriguing.
McLemore would certainly fit the description of the kind of player Marks has targeted thus far. It seems like Marks has gone after players that have been overlooked by other teams, like Joe Harris, Sean Kilpatrick and Quincy Acy. McLemore is just that — overlooked by Sacramento due to ownership’s love for Buddy Hield, and his decreasing minutes signal that.
With that said, it may not take too much to get McLemore out of Sacramento, and it may be smart if Sean Marks gives McLemore’s agent a call.
