Looking Ahead to Offseason

Atkinson stressed the Nets “are going to reap the benefits of going through this struggle,” and that the late-season success the team had gave them a positive vibe going into the offseason. When asked about the offseason, Marks preached strategy and an open mind.

"“Where we stand, I think it would be silly for us to say we are only going to go after one particular player or one particular position. We know, none of us are happy, and that includes our players winning twenty games. We are going to build on this, continue to build, to continue to get the right caliber players to fit into this group and be strategic along the way,” said Marks."

When asked about the possibility of Brooklyn fast-tracking the rebuild by acquiring a superstar free agent, the Popovich protege questioned effectiveness of going all-in on a big name.

"“We got to really evaluate the roster and if you go after one of the top-tier guys, you obviously hope to get him. You hope to get all your targets you go for, but does that really make you better? Does it get you to 30 wins? 35 wins? The objective here is for is us to be in the playoffs,” said Marks."

The GM also discussed the draft and said the chances of the Nets drafting a Euro-stash or having one of their first-round draft picks start his career in the D-League “will depend on the player [and] where we are at with our roster.”

Marks was asked specifically about Milos Teodosic, who he called a “terrific player,” but felt the need to elaborate given the multiple rumors and reports of the Nets scouting the Euro MVP.

"“We are looking at a bunch of different players. It would be pretty irresponsible of me to say we got one guy in mind. That’s not how we are going to do it. It is important for Kenny and the coaching staff to have a voice,” said Marks."

Both Nets leaders will be traveling to Europe to scout more international talent and to meet with owner Mikhail Prokhorov.
