Randy Foye was added in the offseason as a veteran presence for a Brooklyn Nets team in transition for the 2016-17 season. What role did Foye play in the Nets’ season?

Randy Foye is a grizzled veteran. The No. 7 pick in the 2006 NBA Draft chose the Brooklyn Nets in the offseason. The Nets were Foye’s seventh team in his 11 years in the NBA.

In the 2015-16 campaign, Foye was traded from the Denver Nuggets to the Oklahoma City Thunder, added as a veteran scoring presence for an OKC team looking to make a deep run in the playoffs. Foye has been a solid contributor for NBA teams for over a decade.

Choosing Brooklyn

Foye was one of the last summer signings for the Brooklyn Nets. He was signed after the free agency dalliances of Tyler Johnson and Allen Crabbe. When the Nets struck out on the two restricted free agents, they shifted to signing high-character veterans. The signing of Foye, a Newark, New Jersey native, signaled the Nets’ focus on building a team first culture.

In Denver, Foye gained the reputation of setting the tone on and off the court for his Nuggets teammates. Nets General Manager Sean Marks chose Foye as a veteran to guide the Nets’ young pups, along with Luis Scola.

Foye had a rocky road to begin the season. He missed several preseason games and the first six regular season games with a hamstring injury. After that, he saw limited minutes. However, Foye gained minutes as the Nets’ consistent starting shooting guard beginning on Jan. 23 against the San Antonio Spurs.

In total, Foye started 40 of his 69 games in the season. He finished the season with averages of 5.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, and two assists per game, while shooting 36.3 percent from the floor and 33.0 percent from the three-point line.
