7. Beating the Knicks Twice in Five Days

New York City has ceased to be the Mecca of basketball for quite some time now. But for fans of the Nets and the New York Knicks, there is still a rivalry among the cross-town counterparts.

The Knicks had a shot at a playoff run to start the season with the additions of Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. Coupling those veterans with stars Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis, Knicks fans riding high during the offseason.

The year did not go as planned in Manhattan, as injuries and bad play on the court doomed New Yorks’ season early. Finishing 31-51 on the year, the late seasons match-ups between them and Nets were not a hot topic of discussion around the league.

At this point in the year the two New York teams were trending in different directions. The Knicks were a veteran team with more questions than answers about their roster. The Nets were a young team finishing out the season on a high note.

These games mattered more for the Nets than they did the Knicks, but the Nets were able to beat the Knicks twice in a five-day span. They weren’t even games that were necessarily competitive either. The Nets had their way and won the games handedly.

For the rest of the league, these games were a drop in the bucket, but for Nets fans, they were a small source of pride. These two wins evened out the series at 2-2 against the Knicks and showcased the improvement in Brooklyn. For those two nights in March, New York City belonged to Brooklyn.
