Nets: Jamal Crawford Calls Out Kanye West and Says the Rapper ‘Needs Help’
By Jerry Trotta
Nets guard Jamal Crawford called out Kayne West after his latest disturbing outburst.
Rap superstar Kanye West found himself in some hot water on Sunday night after he unleashed a vulgar rant against historical figure Harriet Tubman as part of his “presidential campaign” kick-off. We’re not sure what prompted West to draw this conclusion, but he was quoted saying the heroic abolitionist “never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people.”
In addition to defaming Tubman’s work, the hip hop icon touched on several sensitive topics, including religion, abortion and international trade.
The monologue expectedly made the rounds on social media, and it quickly drew the ire of dozens of athletes. Brooklyn Nets guard Jamal Crawford, who recently signed with the team, was one of the many that chimed in, going as far as to say that West is “screaming for help.”
As Crawford notes, the 43-year-old rapper has been responsible for random explosive outbursts in recent years. We’ll leave the topic of whether he needs help for the professionals, but this Tubman-related tangent is definitely a cause for concern.
For starters, she is considered by many to be the most respected figure of the 19th century. After escaping slavery, Tubman risked her own life to help enslaved men and women travel north to freedom on the famed and secret Underground Railroad. She later became a prominent voice of the women’s suffrage movement.
It’s hard to say that Crawford wasn’t justified in voicing his concern for the distinguished record producer and recording artist. The Nets’ newest addition preached compassion here, though, which is completely understandable. West has lost his way, and certainly needs help finding it.
The sooner he removes himself from the presidential race, the better.
