Here are three NBA assistants the Nets should target as a head coach.

It’s quite annoying that we can’t devote all of our attention to how well the Brooklyn Nets are performing in the NBA bubble. The team improved to 5-2 since the restart after Wednesday’s win over the Orlando Magic, clinching a playoff berth and the No. 7 seed for the playoffs in the process.

A few hours before the game, however, a report from The Athletic revealed a list of potential candidates for Brooklyn’s head coaching vacancy. To say we weren’t a fan of the list would be an understatement, and that comes down to two simple reasons: the names mentioned don’t move the needle, and interim coach Jacque Vaughn literally hasn’t put a foot wrong since taking over.

While the report did claim that the Nets were are considering hiring Vaughn long-term, it’s pretty clear that general manager Sean Marks will weigh all of his options.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at a few NBA assistants that WE would like to see Brooklyn target as the heir apparent to Kenny Atkinson, who was canned back in March.

3. Chris Finch, New Orleans Pelicans

The already bright future of the New Orleans Pelicans was amplified following their selection of Zion Williamson with the No. 1 overall pick last summer.

However, they were eliminated from playoff contention a few days ago after a woeful showing in the bubble. It’s fair to say that New Orleans won’t accomplish much of anything under the tutelage of Alvin Gentry, who is one of the worst coaches in the NBA, as far as in-game adjustments are concerned.

In contrast, a report from ESPN claims that league executives are “bullish” on the innovation shown by Pelicans assistant Chris Finch, which proves he’s a major contributor to the team’s electric style of play. When you consider that the Nets will likely run a fast-paced offense once Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving return from their respective injuries next season, Finch’s frenetic philosophy could be a perfect fit in Brooklyn.
