From the franchise’s inception in the former ABA (American Basketball Association) in 1967, the New York-New Jersey-Brooklyn Nets have endured an exciting journey throughout the past fifty-plus seasons.

Recently, NBA fans have witnessed some of the most exciting trifectas in league history in Miami, Cleveland, and Golden State. Luckily, the newest iteration of this phenomenon has arrived in our borough.

This is, needless to say, a whole new level of excitement.

The new formation of the Brooklyn Nets’ “superteam” has many fans excited at the championship possibilities for this season and beyond.

With recency bias in mind, it’s time to take a look at the top three trios throughout Nets franchise history.

What are the greatest trios in Nets franchise history?

On Jan. 15, 2021, when Brooklyn acquired James Harden from the Houston Rockets in a mega four-team trade, the Nets formed the NBA’s latest “superteam” in New York City.

The addition of the former NBA MVP completed the trilogy of Durant – Irving – Harden. Over their storied careers, each of these athletes has accumulated a long list of notable league accomplishments.

Durant is a two-time NBA champion, two-time NBA Finals MVP, 11-time NBA All-Star, 2008 NBA Rookie of the Year, nine-time All-NBA selection, and the 2014 NBA MVP.

Irving is a 2016 NBA Champion, a seven-time NBA All-Star, a 2014 NBA All-Star MVP, and a 2014 NBA Rookie of the Year. The former Duke guard is also remembered for hitting the game-winning three-pointer against the Warriors in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals.

Harden is a three-time NBA scoring champion, nine-time NBA All-Star, 2012 NBA Sixth Man of the Year, and 2018 NBA MVP. These three incredible athletes provide exceptional scoring from all areas, excellent playmaking abilities, and playoff/championship experience.

Still, Lethal Weapon Three has only played seven games together this season with a 5-2 record. Durant, Irving, and Harden have excellent individual resumes, but the trio will have to win together as a group to move up on this list.
