The last time we checked in with the Brooklyn Nets, the Boston Celtics were throwing them out of the playoffs, broom in hand. Unable to assemble its next gen “Big Three,” the team collapsed and eventually fell into the clutches of what would go on to be a turbulent offseason.

But now with the preseason set to tipoff tonight, the team is back and ready to press the start button on its revenge tour. Opening up the Barclays Center doors, the Nets will finally hit the hardwood for the first time this year and allow their fans to witness the Ben Simmons experience against the Philadelphia 76ers of all teams.

Brooklyn Nets vs Philadelphia 76ers Odds and Moneyline

The Nets are currently favored for this matchup at -225 moneyline odds and by a -6.0 point spread. Both these figures come from the DraftKings Sportsbook.

While we know Brooklyn’s three-headed monster will be on full display tonight, the same cannot be said for the Sixers, hence why the odds favor Brooklyn so heavily. We do not know who exactly the Sixers will start but Doc Rivers did say that James Harden, Joel Embiid, P.J. Tucker, and Danuel House would not play.

Brooklyn Nets vs Philadelphia 76ers Lineups

With Rivers planning to sit three starters but not saying who, this is a toss up. We know who the. Nets are likely to start but feel free to check back later to see who the Sixers will roll with once that news is made public.

Brooklyn Nets vs Philadelphia 76ers Prediction

This is the first preseason game for both teams and the Sixers are undoubtedly treating it that way. The Nets seem to be taking a different approach.

Although we do not and should not expect to see Brooklyn’s staters field more than 15 minutes tonight, they do strike as the team more after a win with their “Big Three” set to debut and Durant even talking earlier this week about his desire to get on the floor. The Nets will also likely welcome in a larger and more excited crowd than preseason games typically house given the anticipation behind Simmons’s first game as a Net.

These all represent small things that would normally factor into whether or not a team wins, but in the preseason, that’s all you need to move the needle. Bettors should feel confident taking both the Nets moneyline and spread as they cruise to a 1-0 start to their preseason.

Prediction: Nets 90, 76ers 75

Brooklyn Nets Next Up

The Nets will sit tight this week and play the Miami Heat at the Barclays Center on Thursday evening also at 7:30 p.m. Like this first game against Philadelphia, this contest should offer the Nets a small look at what should be another Eastern Conference contender.

Next. What to Expect from Kessler Edwards in Year 2. dark

Brooklyn did embarrass the Heat during their last contest, blowing them out 110-95 in an effort that was capitalized by Andre Drummond’s peace sign slam dunk. Regardless, Brooklyn ended up going 1-3 against them for the season last year. Even with it being the preseason, look for the Nets to get back on track.
