Despite reported desires to contend for their sixth-consecutive postseason berth, with the fact that they currently reside in the 11 seed at 21-33 with just 28 games remaining it appears this Brooklyn Nets team is at a serious risk of missing out on playoff, let alone Play-In Tournament contention in 2023-24.
Should this end up being the case, Sean Marks and company would have some rather serious decisions to make during the upcoming summer months, particularly when it comes to the concept of how to approach next season and beyond with the core they currently have in tow.
While reports have suggested that the front office's primary objective is to build a competent squad around centerpiece Mikal Bridges, recently the wing has stirred up some controversy regarding his affinity for playing with the franchise during a recent appearance on The Roommates Podcast.
Though he may not have said anything remotely slanderous or, frankly, incorrect when it comes to the Nets organization, his comments on home crowd atmosphere and the status of the club being the little brother team in their home city have seemingly rubbed fans the wrong way and, in turn, now has led some to believe that these reactions could wind up driving the forward out of the borough.
Teams that could target trade for Brooklyn Nets star Mikal Bridges
Though the odds may be low that Brooklyn will actively be shopping him following the conclusion of the season, this may not stop opposing teams from inquiring about his availability.
With this in mind, there are a few clubs, in particular, that fans should keep tabs on as we inch closer to the summer months.
3. Philadelphia 76ers
A native of Pennsylvania and a Villanova alumni, it should go without saying that the Philadelphia 76ers would be open to the idea of pursuing a trade for the likes of Mikal Bridges this coming summer.
With a healthy Joel Embiid and the emergence of Tyrese Maxey as a legitimate All-Star, the Sixers seem to have quite a menacing dynamic duo in place and are viewed as a title threat for the next several years to come.
Of course, creating a tantalizing trio is likely the goal for the organization this coming offseason, and the concept of achieving such a task by acquiring the homegrown talent could very well be high on their wish list.
Frankly, based on his past admissions of being disappointed when the Sixers traded him moments after taking him 10 overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, it could be a move welcomed by Bridges as well, something that could be viewed as a do-over of sorts.
With their ample draft capital at hand, they could realistically and rather easily piece together a worthwhile package for the Nets to consider.
