Chris Bosh recently was granted a separation from the Miami Heat. The two-time NBA Champion could become a free agent. Only a handful of teams should be interested. The Brooklyn Nets should not be.

The big news this week on the somewhat dormant Chris Bosh front was that the former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket is now a free agent. The stretch-four is free to sign with any team in the NBA.

That should go in one ear and out the other for Brooklyn Nets fans.

There is no doubt that Bosh would be a game-changing presence on any team that signs him. He possesses a lethal mid-range jump-shot that causes headaches for any opposing coaches. In his days under head coach Erik Spoelstra he has become a proficient 3-point shooter.

Bosh shot 37 percent from deep during his last full season with Miami. That was in 2016. He hasn’t played since then.

That should raise multiple red flags to anyone.

Bosh was diagnosed with numerous blood clots the past few seasons. In February 2015, blood clots were found on his lungs. He missed the remainder of the 2014-15 season because of it.

He returned to the Heat the following season. Bosh’s numbers during the 2015-16 season were great. He scored 19 points, six rebounds and two rebounds per game. He shot over 50 percent from the field and shot above league average from deep.

Bosh seems like a talent upgrade for the Brooklyn Nets. He is a talent upgrade for the Nets. No one on the team right now has achieved nearly as much as the 11-time All-Star.

They should still stay away.

Bosh will be a free-agent this offseason. He instantly becomes one of the top free agents of this class. Kevin Durant and Steph Curry, are likely to stay put. Chris Paul, Kyle Lowry and Paul Milsap are the most talented flight-risks.

Bosh is a proven winner, unlike the latter three superstars. That’s not a knock on those guys. All are All-Stars and great players in their own right.

They’re just not winners.

Bosh is a hot commodity. At least he seems to be. Underneath the surface of a stretch-four built for the modern NBA is a clouded medical history.

He is a medical risk. He is a public relations risk. Bosh is a risk no matter how you define the word risk.

The man hasn’t played in over a year in a professional basketball game. He hasn’t extensively trained with the Heat and he hasn’t taken a hard foul. Bosh isn’t conditioned to do that.

He may never be again.

Bosh likely won’t consider the Brooklyn Nets in free agency. He would fit well next to Brook Lopez in what would be a very talented frontcourt. He would be a nightmare to guard in the pick-and-roll with Jeremy Lin.

Bosh is a champion though. He has 52 million reasons not to take a bloated salary with the bottom-feeding Nets.

This isn’t a topic likely to last beyond this article. There were never any rumors of a Bosh-Nets pact. A player of his caliber likely won’t consider the Nets for at least a few seasons.

The fit would be great. The thought of having a superstar like Bosh could make Nets fans salivate.

He isn’t worth the risk. That is certainly the case for Brooklyn. He just may not be worth the risk for any team given the possible worst-case scenarios.
